Programs
Programs
The MHS educational programs show the general public that you must speak up for the welfare of animals rather than accept the mistreatment being conducted in society today.
Our programs introduce the community to the numerous responsibilities, cost and time commitment associated with the caring of their furry buddies, whether it is a small lovable puppy/kitten or the grown dog/cat.
Our staff explains to the public the need for such programs as Spay & Neutering and Micro-chipping. They also teach that kindness and love instead of starvation and physical abuse will provide you with a friend for life. This kind of education builds character and will eventually lead to a more humane and law-abiding society.
Ultimately, many people will become the much needed volunteers, animal owners and/or supporters of MHS.

Low Cost Spay/Neuter Program
Animal Allies Humane Society, Northland Spay/Neuter Clinic, LLC,
and animal welfare organizations across the region are partnering to
create Northland Spay/Neuter—a low cost, high quality spay/neuter
service to homeless shelter animals, animals owned by households
earning less than $40,000 per year, and animals owned by members of
participating Native American Tribes.
The goal of the Northland Spay/Neuter program is to reduce pet
homelessness, shelter intake, and shelter euthanasia within a 100-mile
radius of Duluth.
Northland Spay/Neuter will serve all of Northeastern Minnesota and
Northwestern Wisconsin by providing free transportation of animals
from designated pick-up points throughout the region to Northland
Spay/Neuter Clinic in Duluth. Following surgery, animals will be held
overnight for monitoring then returned to their initial pick-up point the
next morning.
Alterations fees are as follows:
Dog spay is $ 79
Dog neuter is $65
Cat Spay is $49
Cat Neuter is $39
The Mesabi Humane Society is a designated pick-up point for pet
owners in the area. Transport days will be set up at least two weeks in
advance and a minimum of 20 animals will be transported to Duluth at
one time. If interested in having your pet altered through the Northland
Spay/Neuter program, please contact the Mesabi Humane Society for
further information.
